The members of the Harlem Gospel Travelers were taking a class on gospel — the Gospel for Teens program in New York — mentored by Eli “Paperboy” Reed when he realized the quartet was so good they needed to get in the studio. They’d started writing their own songs and he could see they had a style that just had to be on wax. Reed plucked Thomas Gatling, Asher Bethune, Stephen Pedley and George Marage, all ages 19-22, from the choir and let their voices shine in the quartet setting. “He’s On Time,” on Colemine Records is a rousing collection of gospel tunes, sung in the great old school, raise your hands in the air and praise loud Southern tradition. As Reed says, “I think they're so talented. I haven't heard anything that sounds like this record in however many years — or ever.”
