The aim of drummer and bandleader Sammy Miller and his cohorts, The Congregation, is to play music that makes you feel good, music that uplifts. They call it joyful jazz, and we’re all in. Individually, the members of this spirited ensemble have played and recorded with the likes of Queen Latifah, Wynton Marsalis and Lady Gaga, in venues as lofty as the White House and the Lincoln Center, but are committed as a unit to creating and sharing community through the bonding power of music. Joining Sammy Miller are: Sam Crittenden, trombone, Ben Flocks, tenor sax, Alphonso Horne, trumpet, David Linard, piano, and John Snow, bass. Their music is a celebration of life, ranging from swampy, bluesy, New Orleans-tinged excursions, to exuberant romps like “Li'l Liza Jane.” They are straight up fun. You won’t leave without a smile on your face.
