When the opportunity to play the Jazz festival was presented, Kenny Goldman, a jazz pianist and Telluride resident reached out to his old friend from music school for a horn section and drafted Wyoming based Dr. Robert Rumbolz, trumpet, a notable composer, professor and performer in the contemporary jazz world. Robert is an Associate Professor of Music at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. Our tenor saxophonist, Sam Woodis, a recent graduate of Northwest College, currently attends Montana State University where he is pursuing a degree in Music Education. Our Bassist, Evan Suiter of Durango, managing a busy performance and accompaniment schedule here in Colorado, is an active educator teaching privately as well as holding faculty positions at Fort Lewis College and Stillwater Music. Add the pro drumming of Chris Goplerud - a veteran at Telluride Jazz Festival - and we became the Wind River Jazz Project; A collection of 5 seasoned jazz musicians bringing a fresh perspective to a mixture of jazz standards and new works.
