Oh, what a voice! As a young girl in Portsmouth, Virginia, her talent was recognized immediately by then up-and-coming rapper, Missy Elliott, and fellow Portsmouth home girl, who heard of young Miss Wray’s talent singing in her church choir. Elliott signed her on the spot to her new record label, and so began Nicole Monique Wray’s journey as a professional musician. She’s worked with countless artists in the rap-hip-hop and R&B worlds, but where her star has taken on its brightest luster is on her latest record, Piece of Me. It’s an impressive showcase for her supple, self-penned R&B-soul songs, her voice dancing over sweet grooves that swing seductively.
