Trumpeter and bandleader Joe Smith is of a mind that one way to live in the future is to listen to the past. When it comes to music, anything goes, no matter one’s generational influences. But if there’s one style of music that’s as exciting today as it was in the 1930s and 40s, it’s swing. In fact, that’s the Denver-based Spicy Pickles’ mission: Bringing swing to a new generation. This high energy band will dish up swing and dance favorites, along with a visual presence that will take you back to the Golden Era of American music. Close your eyes and you’ll think you’re hearing Artie Shaw, Count Basie or Benny Goodman. They’ve got original music, too, and their sound, they say, “will make you fall in love with jazz all over again.”
