For Chief Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott), jazz is in the blood. The New Orleans trumpeter is the nephew of legendary saxophonist, Donald Harrison Jr. Adjuah’s introduction to music began with Harrison when Christian was 13. It proved a fruitful springboard into his professional aspirations. After graduating from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 2001, Adjuah received a full tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he earned a degree in Professional Music and Film Scoring. Christian, like his grandfather Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr., is a chieftain in the Afro New Orleanian Tribes, also known as Black Indians. He’s been nominated five times for a Grammy and, in 2016 was awarded the JazzFM Innovator of the Year for his Stretch Music app, an app that allows “musicians the ability to completely control their practicing, listening and learning experience by customizing the player to fit their specific needs and goals.” His compositional brilliance and his support for organizations and causes important to his community set him apart not only as a musician, but as a human. You’re in for a treat.
