The Greyboy Allstars
GBA are a San Diego funk and jazz group created in the early 1990s. The group began as collaboration of DJ Greyboy (turntable) with Karl Denson (saxophone, flute) that gradually gathered musicians co-founding a house band including Robert Walter (keyboards), Chris Stillwell (bass), Elgin Park (also known as Mike Andrews) (guitar), and Aaron Redfield (drums). The Greyboy Allstars were a major part of the mid-90s acid jazz movement and a catalyst for renewed interest in late 60s/early 70s soul jazz. Denson has described the Greyboy Allstars as a boogaloo band, a distinction which has set them apart from other contemporary soul jazz/acid jazz combos. Their first album, West Coast Boogaloo, featuring support from James Brown trombonist and bandleader Fred Wesley, then a live album simply entitled Live. What Happened to Television? is their latest. In New Orleans, the band sold out shows during Jazz Fest. They were last in Telluride in 1996. www.greyboyallstars.com

Jackie Ryan
Jazz vocalist Jackie Ryan has been thrilling audiences across the globe with her powerful 3 ½ octave range and her amazing stage presence. She has a style that is uniquely her own. Born of a Mexican mother who sang in Operettas in Mexico and an Irish tenor father who sang the classics in many languages she was, as one critic put it “born to sing.”

She has sung all over the world from the famous Ronnie Scott’s Club in London (where she was asked to record for their label) to Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland in New York to Oakland’s Yoshi’s, as well as many of the major jazz festivals. Her style includes an amazing range from gospel and blues to Braziian Bossa Novas, Latin songs, to Bebop Vocalese to the most heartfelt ballads. She sings in several languages. “Everything she sings comes off beautifully, with amazing control. If she sings loud and brassy, she nails it; if she goes soft and silky, she owns it.” (Baker and Taylor’s CD Hotlist review)

Jackie Ryan's latest double CD, DOOZY, featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Eric Alexander, Romero Lubambo and Jeremy Pelt, has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews across the country as well as  4-stars (excellent!)  from both DOWNBEAT and All Music Guide, and held the #1 position nationwide on JazzWeek's industry-standard chart for 7 weeks - an extraordinarily rare achievement. Jackie Ryan, was a featured artist on NPR, Voice of America, CNN Espanol, and PRIMETIME A&E. She
has shared the stage and/or recorded with: Clark Terry, Toots Thielemans, Barry Harris, The Jeff Mailton Trio,  Amina Figarova, Cyrus Chestnut, Terry Gibbs, Eric Alexander, Buddy DeFranco, Red Holloway, Romero Lubambo, and Jon Hendricks, to name just a few.

She is "One of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and, quite possibly, of all time, rivaling the dexterous sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae, and the scintillating verve of Diana Krall."  - Christopher Loudon, JAZZTIMES

Singer-songwriter Dan Hicks is truly an American original. Since the early 1960s, Hicks has deftly blended elements of Swing, Jazz, Folk and Country music to create the appealing sound he sometimes calls "Folk Jazz.” The lyrics of his songs range from the simply sublime to the sublimely ridiculous, all presented with his uniquely skewed and inscrutable touch. Raul Midón
Midón unleashes a silky, soulful tenor and dazzling percussive guitar style -- a syncopated, flamenco- and jazz-infused approach in which bass, harmony, and melodic lines emanate from the fret-board in one slap-happy storm. If that weren’t enough, Midón busts out his improvisational mouth horn technique, in which he creates a bebop “trumpet” solo entirely with his lips. With a genre-defying blend of soul, pop, jazz, folk, and Latin elements, Midón’s evolution as an artist has deceptively up-tempo swinging rhythms and deliriously memorable melodies. www.raulmidon.com
