Telluride Student All-Stars

Telluride Student allstarsThe Telluride Student All-Star Program has been in existence since 1995. The week long jazz workshop preceding the Telluride Jazz Celebration is directed by jazz artists and educators Josh Quinlan and Bob Montgomery.

The purpose of the program is to inspire artistic development and motivation in students age 13 and older (preference will be given to high school students or recent graduates).  A pianist and/or guitarist, bassist, drummer, plus a front line of three to five instrumentalists or vocalists will be chosen after the audition process. All instruments will be considered. Members will receive full scholarship to the program and room and board from August 1-7, 2011. Group performances include nightly jam sessions at a club in Telluride, the opening set of the Telluride Jazz Celebration and other performances throughout the weekend. Additional funding for travel  may be available on a limited basis. Students from throughout the US and Canada are encouraged to audition.

Telluride Student All-Star Audition Information

The Telluride Student All-Star Program has been in existence since 1995. Directed by jazz artists and educators, Josh Quinlan and Bob Montgomery, the program's goal is to motivate, inspire and develop artistic growth in young musicians.

The winners of this audition will receive a full scholarship to study and perform the week prior to the Telluride Jazz Celebration. Performances throughout the week include a main stage Saturday set, the opening party show, a Sunday set in Elk's Park and jam sessions at a local club throughout the week. Scholarships include seven days of room and board (with Telluride host families), five days of intensive workshops, and a weekend artist pass to the Jazz Celebration.

Audition Deadline: June 1, 2011

Requirements: Submit a CD or DVD of a jazz performance. Your audition must consist of three contrasting tunes of your choice (e.g., medium swing, ballad, bossa nova, uptempo swing, samba, bebop, modal, original or modern). You may choose to record with a live band or the accompaniment of a jazz play-a-long. (Note: Rhythm section players must set the balance of their stereo accordingly with play-a-long recordings.)

Selected members will be notified by June 15, 2011 and should plan on arriving in Telluride, CO on August 1, 2011 and staying until August 7, 2011.
