A Lavalanche Tribute to Mike Enriquez ft. Kevin McCarthy is a special celebration of the life of late musician Mike Enriquez. Mike was a prolific Southwest Colorado artist and a regular performer at the Telluride Jazz Festival between projects, The McCarthy Trio (2023, 2022, 2019 and more) and Lavalanche (2023). He tragically passed away in early January 2024, leaving behind a legacy of incredible performances showcasing his mastery on the standup bass, electric bass, B3 organ, piano, mandolin, guitar and drums. Join some of Mike’s closest musical collaborators, Tyler Simmons, Danny D’alessandro, John “Sully” Sullivan, Charlie Henry, Travis Fisher, along with special guests Kevin McCarthy and more for a special tribute to open the 2024 Telluride Jazz Festival Main Stage. About Lavalanche
A force of nature sliding down the mountainside, Lavalanche rocks a fiery but smooth 1960's rhythm and blues, based around the notable Hammond B3 organ sound. With Mike Enriquez on the Hammond B3 organ, John "Sully" Sullivan on the drum set, Danny D'alessandro on the saxophone, and Tyler Simmons on the electric guitar, this quartet provides inertia to the Lavalanche. Their funky sound erupts with retro danceability, and their use of contemporary tonal modulation shapes landscapes.
About The McCarthy Trio
From their first show, the McCarthy Trio knew they were on to something good! When playing all members of the Trio put a spin on the sound, direction and balance of the composition. As true collaborators, the soul of the Trio's sound depends on this.
Playing a mix of modern jazz, blues and originals, a Kevin McCarthy Trio performance takes its listeners on a journey. Mike Enriquez holds down the bass and is perfectly supportive with every note. His solos reflect the depth of a very musical voice. Chris Goplerud drives the band with an infectious groove, always nimble and creative. Chris has a deep knowledge of jazz and a passion for the music that is inspirational. Kevin McCarthy has been performing and teaching guitar for 24 years. His music is a confluence of jazz and blues.
The Kevin McCarthy Trio has played with great acclaim in venues around Telluride including, Telluride Jazz Festival, Telluride Wine Festival, Sheridan Opera House, Wright Opera House, Sherbino Theater, and the Palm Theater.
